Grading

The Belt ranking system in Sun Kune Do as with most methods of martial arts signifies a level of accomplishment. Both physically and mentally.  Belts are designed to promote confidence and instill respect for seniority.

The highest is that of black belt.  Training continues beyond black belt if the pupil wishes to acquire black belt Dan ranking grades, which would eventually promote them to the highest level of 6th Dan, signifying him/her a master of the art.

The belt ranking system in Sun Kune Do is as follows:

The majority of Martial Arts styles with a belt ranking system, grade pupils on a regular three month basis from beginner to black belt.  In Sun Kune Do however the higher the grade obtained the longer the grade duration.  Pupils cannot sit an examination until they have completed their grade duration.  The duration between these examinations will vary from student depending on the individual mastery of techniques and also class attendance.  At the end of every grading, if successful, the student will receive their belt and a certificate.

Grading Duration 

The following is attained on a regular two day a week training basis:

WHITE TO YELLOW BELT

1 MONTH

YELLOW BELT TO GREEN

2 MONTHS

GREEN BELT TO BLUE BELT

3 MONTHS

BLUE BELT TO RED BELT

4 MONTHS

RED BELT TO BROWN BELT

6 MONTHS

BROWN BELT TO  BLACK BELT

1 YEAR

Grading Rules

1.   All grading fees must be paid on the grading date.
2.   Only those with valid up to date licenses will grade and with license handed in on grading date.
3.   Failure to attend a grading will cause a waiting period consisting of the entire grading duration for that rank.
4.   Attend classes for the result of your grading.  Failure to attend will cause a non promotional rank.  In some cases demotion of their current grade.
5.   A failed grading will be re-seated after a expired duration of only half the grading period.
6.   A minimum of two weeks notice must be given for grading cancellations.
7.   No spectators allowed when pupils grade unless specified by the instructor.
8.   Pupils must not confer throughout grading exams.
9.   Correct uniform and current grade must be worn at all grading exams.
10.   Instructor black belts 1st degree are authorised to grade up to red belt.  Instructor black belts 2nd degree are authorised to grade up to brown belt.  Instructor black belts 3rd degree are authorised to grade individuals to black 1st belt Standard .
